The International Early Mariology Database Project web application is written in Java and runs on the Apache Tomcat J2EE application server. XML database functionality is provided by the open source eXist XML database. By using open source software written in the Java language, the International Early Mariology Database Project is totally platform-independant and does not rely on any single vendor for any of its hardware of software needs.

The International Early Mariology Database Project encodes all data using the TEI2 "Lite" XML encoding standard, which is used by many other groups around the world including;

  • ATLAS (American Theological Library Association)
  • HyperGrammar (University of Ottawa)
  • Perseus Project (Tufts University)

By using a widely adopted international standard for literature encoding, the International Early Mariology Database Project ensures that its data will be useful to the widest possible audience and is compatible with any software that reads the TEI2 XML specification.

The International Early Mariology Database Project has been tested to work with a variety of internet browsers under a number of different operating systems. If you have any technical difficulties please contact Grant Sparks <grant@sparks.to> to report the problem.

The International Early Mariology Database Project was produced by Hibana Pty Ltd for the Centre for Early Christian Studies (ACU National, Brisbane) to assist the ongoing work of the International Mariology Project.
